Jeep FAQs
Question:
I have a 1974 Jeep cj5 with manual steering box and basic column. I
would like to put a jeep style tilt column on it (page 11 of your
Winter 2000 book). The ignition switch is currently located on the dash.
Can you send part# and price info for all that is needed for a bolt on
solution...tilt column, mounting adaptors, new shaft from column to
steering box (if needed), ignition and key switch wire harness adaptors,
billet aluminum handles, etc...
The original column is 36" long and I have a Grant 990 wheel to put on it.
Answer:
The rebuilt 76&up columns are $234.95 and shipping is now $21.50.
The "lower shaft" connecting the column to the box is $150.00.
Billet handles go for $29.95. An adaptor harness to switch over from
the dash ignition and bolt-on turn signal switch to the
column/turnsignals w/hazard goes for $24.95.
We can supply a bracket ($12.00) to help adapt the column to your
CJ-5 however, you will need to fabricate an underdash bracket to
hold the column. Many customers use later pedals to accomplish the
same thing.
If you feel that your present wires are faulty, it would be best the
re-wire the CJ with our GV-10J kit (page 10) or the JP harness (page
9) instead of using those wiring adaptors.
Question:
I need a complete replacement wiring harness for my 1980 Jeep J-10 pickup
Answer:
Our GV-10J Kit would be best for your pick-up. This is a universal
JEEP kit but not a "stock" replacement harness. Those are not
available
Question:
I am looking for a complete wiring harness for my 1974 J10 Jeep pickup with a 360V8-4speed,
what harness should I use?
Answer:
Your best bet would be to use our GV-10J kit in your truck. This is
a KIT which will re-wire the complete pick-up.
Question:
I am in search for a total wiring harness for the Jeep.
I have looked in books like "Quadratec" and the have a
preterminated factory harness.. but it is expensive. i was
wondering if you supplied anything that could totally rewire a
CJ-7, and wouldn't empty my pockets.. thanks
Answer:
We have the GV-10J kit which is quite inexpensive to completely
re-wire your CJ. These sell for $259.95.
Question:
I am looking to convert my 89 Jeep Wrangler straight 6
cylinder with a Ford 5.0 HO from a 88 Mustang GT, someone suggested
your website from a forum that I had asked some questions about
conversions. Do you do this kind of work and if so what would I need
and of course what would the cost of product.
Answer:
We can supply a harness for that conversion. These normally cost
$610.00 depending on options.
Question:
Hello, I'd like to put a GM 305/700R4 tranny into my Jeep
Wrangler. Mechanically I'm fine, but the wiring/electronic part
scares me. The 305 is from an 84 el camino, and I do have the
wiring and computer. I am clueless on how to plug everything in.
Is there a wiring kit out there that will allow me to do this? Any
help or recommendations would be greatly apprediated.
Answer:
We can probably make a harness for you. It depends on what emissions
requirements you have in the state which you live?
Question:
Hello, I was wondering if the CJ tilt steering columns would
bolt right up to a 79 CJ7 and if not what do I need to buy in addition to the
column to make it work and fit. I have manual steering right now but soon to
have a power conversion soon. Also I was wondering if you have a steering
pump bracket for sale for a 304 AMC v-8, because I am having touble finding one.
Answer:
Our tilt columns for manual transmission CJs are a bolt-in while automatic columns may take a little extra work depending on your transmission. You will need to re-use your steering wheel or replace it with a new one.
I don't have a line on pump brackets. Try looking for one from a V8 Wagoneer.
Question:
I need a wiring harness for my Jeep Grand Wagoneer 1986, can you help?
Answer:
Sorry, but we only do CJs.
Question:
I want to put a 1995 Jeep 2.5 mpi motor in a 1986 with
a 2.5 TBI motor. Do you make a harness for the MPI motor with the stock
PCM? I have the harness that came with the motor but buying a new
harness would be easer then trying to seperate the engine harness from
the main harness. Any ideas?
Answer:
You will need to re-use the stock MPI harness. See your dealer to
purchase their shop manual for the donor MPI vehicle to help sort
things out.
Question:
A friend changed his 1980 Jeep from a 6 to a V8. In the process, tore off wiring from engine doesnt know where they all go can you send me a wiring diagram or somehow tell me where they go. Help please!
Answer:
Forget the diagram. What you need is a new harness to replace that
old piece of junk before you burn the Jeep down. Use our JP-80 or
JP-80D harness.
Question:
I need just a basic wiring harness for the new 1982 CJ7 body I am
installing on this jeep.
Answer:
Your best bet would be to use our JP-82 or JP-82D harness in your CJ.
Question:
HI guys, I am currently restoring a '79'CJ7, the steering column is a real
mess and your product looks just the thing to fix it.As you know we are
right hand drive over here and I wondering if this will present a difficulty
if I was to order a new column from you (fitment etc.).Do you ship to
Australia?Anyway, thanks very much for any assistance you are able to give
me, and I look forward to your reply.
Answer:
I've never seen a Australian Jeep so I don't know if ours would work for you.
These columns are difficult to ship without breakage here in the
states so it would need to be packaged exceptionally well for
shipment down-under, yes we can ship to Australia.
I would try to have yours rebuilt down there if possible before ordering ours.
Question:
I am looking for a complete
wiring harness going into a '86 Jeep CJ-7 with a GM
'87 TPI 5.7L motor. I need dash, body, and engine
compartment harness
Answer:
You can use our JP-83 or JP-83D Jeep harness in your CJ. Also, we
can supply a TPI harness as well.
Question:
I am looking for the complete wire harness for
a 1970 Jeepster Commado with no power top. Do you offer anything close.
Answer:
Commando customers can use our GV-10J kit which is a close match but
differs at the gauge panel from normal CJs. They would have to
re-use a connector and splice our gauge wiring to their plug.
Question:
I have no wiring my Jeep at this point and need a wiring kit which includes a fuse
block and the minimal wiring to make the vehicle run. Emissions are not
applicable.
Answer:
We can supply both the TBI and the body wiring for your Jeep.
Use our general purpose GV-10J kit or possibly the pre-made "JP"
harness with our TBI Engine harness.
Question:
I'm looking into restoring a 1981 CJ-5 Jeep but
the only real problem I have with the jeep is the
wiring harness is basically non existant. I have
very little money so I need a relitively cheap
wiring harness. Any Suggestions?
Answer:
We have two harnesses to offer for your CJ-5. The least expensive
one is the GV-10J KIT which requires more labor to install than the
JP-81 which is a complete harness needing much less time. Either one
will do the job.
The GV-10J sells for $259.95 while the JP goes for $399.95.
Question:
I need a replacement wiring harness that has all the
connectors on it for a 1994 Jeep Wrangler.
Answer:
Look in the bone-yards or call Chrysler.
Question:
I would like some info on your CJ tilt column. I have a 1953 CJ3B flat fender and would like
to know the length from the mounting bracket to the bottom .
Answer:
Our standard tilt column for CJs is 18" from the center of the
mounting bracket to the very bottom of the spline. We can make
custom length columns if necessary. These start at $259.95 while the
standard CJ column (stick on floor) is $234.95.
Question:
I am Yogi from Indonesia. I have CJ-5 (1976) and CJ-6 (1978). I 'll replace
the wiring system of them (include cable for lamps, switches, and meter
indicators as I see in 4x4 magazine). Can you help me by give me the
specification?
Answer:
Do you have a left hand or right hand drive in your CJs?
If yours are left hand drive (like our CJs), you should use our JP-76 and JP-78 harnesses. These cost $399.95 (USD) each, plus shipping. If you have right hand drive CJs, use our GV-10J Kit; they sell for $259.95 (USD).
Question:
I'm having a 1984 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler (the long-bed version of the
CJ) re-built from the ground up with a race hp V8. The Jeep is
being built as a s.c.o.r.e.-legal desert racer, not a rock crawler.
I'm interested in having you build a steering column for this jeep.
We're re-doing the dash and do not need anything on the column. the
turn signals, ignition, etc. will all be on the dash.
Answer:
It maybe possible to have a "special" made without any switches at
all; just the tilt. This column would have the proper splined end
and length made to your specifications. These are plenty strong
having a 1" shaft to the steering box with internals made by Saginaw
(GM).
Not having any knowledge of how "strong" the column must be, I would
suggest you stay with the much simpler "straight" (non-tilt) column.
Question:
I am looking for a wiring harness to replace my old one on a 1974 CJ-5 304 V8. It is all there but I would like it to be much better.
Answer:
What you have now is a fire looking for a place to happen.
Use our GV-10J to replace your old wiring. This kit has been designed for those earlier CJ-5s.
Question:
I recently bought a 1985 CJ-7. It needs the dimmer switch put in but the part I was given only has three contacts however there are 6 wires that should connect to the switch. Do I have the wrong part or is there a way to wire this configuration? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Answer:
If your harness has 6 separate terminals going to it instead of 3 terminals (2 wires per terminal?) needed by the new switch, you do not have the proper switch. If the new switch plugs into your existing plug, try it.
Question:
I'm looking for a dealer in my area. Grand Rapids, MI, I need a steering column and a wiring harness for a 1951
CJ3a with a 92 4.3L v6 TBI.
Answer:
Try Jeff's Bronco in Brighton, (248) 437-5060. They handle our
stuff. Ask them to order a GV-10 wire kit and the SWK-2J switch kit
for you. We also have the TBI wiring for your CJ. Call about the TBI to get
price etc. I'll need your computer Service Number from the tag on
top.
