Electronic Fuel Injection FAQs
Question:
How long does it take to install one of your Vortec harnesses for
my 97 5.7L in my CJ?
Answer:
Our Vortec harnesses only need you to connect four wires; the rest
you just plug in. I would expect the harness to be connected inside
an hour; two at the most. You plug in our harness between the
engine/transmission/computer then connect a GROUND, BATTERY, FUEL
PUMP FEED, and IGNITION POWER to our harness. That's all there is to
it.
Question:
Can you make a harness and re-program my computer for the newer
98 up Vortec type engines? I've heard that these engines have a
special anti-theft feature which keeps the engine from running.
Answer:
We have been making 98 up harnesses and re-programming PCMs
(computers) for some time now. We can do the 4.3;L, 5.3L, 5.7L and
6.0L engines from 1998 to 2001. We re-program (flash) your computer
to allow the engine to start/run properly. We remove the "PASSKEY"
anti-theft system to allow you to successfully install our engine
harness.
Question:
I have a 1998 LS-1 engine and I want to put it into my 40 Ford
street rod and I don't want a bunch of wires like the stock Camaro
wire harness. I'm using an "ididit" column. Can you supply a simple
harness and reprogram my computer for the 4L60E tranny?
Answer:
We make a LS-1 harness for the older computers as well as the
newer LS-1 computers (PCM) from 1999 up Camaros and Firebirds. We
eliminate many of the problems found when trying to re-use a stock
harness. In fact, we re-program the PCM to remove many of the
troublesome items which cause difficulties such as the removing of
the two oxygen sensors behind the convertors and the elimination of
the evap system.
Question:
What kinds of fuel injection harness do you carry?
Answer:
Please see the price list in the Fuel Injection Section of this website for a complete list of the types we do.
Question:
I have a 1989 305 chevy TPI and want to install it in a 63 Nova. I have a complete harness for the car. Do you have what I need to install it and how much ?
Answer:
Purchase our SunCoast Manual on converting your engine to the Nova
using your harness. These cost $19.95.
Question:
I have a 1997 LT-1 with a 4l60 trans in my 1949 Pontiac conv. I'm looking for a
engine harness.along all the other wiring to do the car. It has a
1985 GM tilt column with the wipers in it.
Answer:
We can supply a simple 4 wire hook-up for that LT-1 engine using
your stock computer. It may need to be re-programmed to allow the
transmission to shift properly however.
Question:
I have the opportunity to get a 96 corvette LT-1 with, I believe the 4l60e
transmission and the computer that runs it all. How many wires does it require to make it run.
Answer:
Our LT-1/4L60E harness requires only 4 wires to hook-up. You need a
GROUND, BATTERY POWER, IGN SW POWER and a wire back to the FUEL
PUMP. You can get the switched IGN PWR from the top of your ballast resistor.
Question:
I have previously purchased all the wiring for my 1963 Land Cruiser from
you. Now I need to get a fuel injection harness. I plan to use a MAF unit
from an 87 camaro. The unit is complete and has all new sensors, knock
sensor, spark control module, and relays. Now I need a harness that will
support this unit and enable the computer to be located under the pass seat.
I don't see this harness offered anymore in your catalog. Is it still
available and what is the price?
Answer:
We do not make a MAF harness; only the speed/density type from 90-91
cars. This harness is much easier to install and tune but you will
need a different computer and a MAP sensor in place of the MAF
sensor. Harnesses like this sell for approximately $400 depending on
your optional requirements
Question:
I would like to know if anyone has plans to make a late
model electronic fuel injection on a mid 70's chevy?
Answer:
We manufacture harnesses for Fuel Injection transplants. We do TBI,
TPI, LT-1, LT-4, LS-1 and Vortec (V6 and V8) motors.
Question:
I have the Howell LT1 harness but I though that there would be
changes to your K-55 harness for that application. Are There?
Answer:
You can easily add the Howell system to our fuse panel because the
wires run to the panel where there are several terminals available
specifically for fuel injection applications on the K-55 kit which uses our
stainless PDP-1B fuse panel.
Question:
I need a engine wiring harness to hook into engine
control module and necessary sensors to make it possible to run a
96 4.3L chevy V6 out of a sonoma pickup. Also what would it take to also control a 4L60E tranny?
Answer:
We can make a harness to wire your 4.3L Vortec w/4L60E transmission.
You would use a stock 96 Vortec computer to control both the engine
and the transmission. This harness only requires you to hook up four wires plus the
engine/trans. The cost is in the range of $600.00
Question:
I am putting a 87 350 TPI motor in my 57 Suburban. I need a fuel injection
wiring harness. How much is it?
Answer:
Our TPI harnesses run around $400.00 depending on options.
Question:
I bought an LT-1 harness from you guys and when I installed it and
fired the car up I was getting fuel dripping out of my headers on one side. I had a friend
that is a certified GM mechanic come over to check it out, he installed a little plug-in-light at the end of the injector wire were it connects to the injector and all but 1 flashed which he said was proper, the other stayed on steady. Could this be caused by the computer or the wiring for that injector? Are you able to check out the
computer if I send it to you guys. Please let me know asap.
Answer:
1. First check the wiring. If it's wrong, move the wire. If the wire is placed correctly, unplug the injector which is in doubt and the computer plug which houses that wire. Use your ohmmeter to test the injector wire to see if the injector wire is always shorted to ground even though the computer is disconnected. In fact, it maybe best to disconnect the computer completely.
2A. If it is shorted to ground, look for a pinched wire.
2B. If the wire is not shorted to ground, you have a faulty computer with a bad driver chip. Borrow a second computer to check to see whether the same problem exists. I have no way to check the PCM.
Question:
I've got a '95 LT-1 V8 in my Toyota w/700r-4 at the
moment. However, it's running off the stock ECM, and half the
sensors aren't even hooked up! (I bought the truck like this).
I've been told that the stock computer won't work in the truck
because of the absence of VAT system, ABS, vehicle speed sensor,
etc. What do I need in the way of wiring harness, ECM, etc from you
guys to get it to run in closed loop? The truck DOES NOT have to
pass emissions testing.
Answer:
We can make an off-road (non-emissions) harness for your 95 LT-1 and
700R4. Your 95 computer would need to be reprogrammed into a
"manual" type to run properly. It would be best to run the 4l60E
tranny in place of the 700R4 however to take advantage of he lock-up
feature. You could convert your transmission to a manual lock-up if
you wish.
We supply a VATS eliminator in our harnesses. Harnesses like these
go for $600.00 plus shipping.
Question:
We want to install a 1995 fuel injected 5.7 V8 from a
Chevy Caprice Police car. I don't see any Vortec marking on engine
so I'm assuming it's a LT-1? Can I tell from computer p/n? We have
the old harness and computer. It also has a 4L60E auto
transmission. What would be the required parts to perform this
install? No smog is required. Would it be best to include a speed
sensor and include controls for the automatic or will the automatic
operate OK without computer input? The primary functions required
are fuel and spark management in a simple to wire setup for a
custom install. No vats so I would assume we need a new chip? All
other wiring for engine, charging, and gauges has already been completed
Answer:
This is an LT-1 engine with the 4L60E tranny. You MUST use the speed
sensor (VSS) to control the transmission shift points. Since you're
going to change the tires and gear ratio for your Jeep vs the cop
car, the computer will need to be re-programmed for proper
operation. There is no "chip" in your computer, so the computer
itself must be sent to us for re-programing ($125.00). We can built
the harness to eliminate most of the smog stuff if not required.
This is a 4 wire hook-up; GROUND, BATTERY, FUEL PUMP and SWITCH
(IGN) POWER.
Answer: .
We have a customer that wants to install a 87 TBI 350 in a
89 Jeep Wrangler, do you offer a kit for doing this.
Answer:
We have several wiring kits to do this TBI swap. The most common
uses the #7747 computer but there are others. I would need to know
the Service Number (SN) from the tag on the computer and whether the
harness/computer needed to meet emissions standards to give you a
price.
Question:
I am interested in your wiring harnesses for Ford fuel injected 302
application. I have the fuel injection off of a 86 HO Mustang. I am
trying to put it on a early 70's model 302 in a 76 Ford Bronco. I have
all the harness and hardware off the 86. I also want to convert it to
mass air. I have taken all of the lighting wires out of the harness,
but am still confused as to some of the functions of the wire. I was
wondering if any of your harnesses would help me finish my project. I
would also like a cam recommendation because I think the cam that is in
the motor is two much for the fuel injection.
Answer: .
You could purchase one of our MAF harnesses to ease your
installation difficulties. These harnesses require just 5 wires to
hook-up to your vehicle. By purchasing an adjustable MAF, you can correct for the some of the
problems which occur when changing injector size and camshaft.
